Wu Wenhao Attends Lancang-Mekong River Basin Cooperation Seminar

Nanjing, December 2, 2023 - The Lancang-Mekong River Basin Cooperation Seminar convened in Nanjing with the aim of fostering comprehensive collaboration and governance among basin countries to promote sustainable socio-economic development. Organized by Hohai University and co-hosted by its Business School and the World Water Valley Research Institute, the seminar received support from the China Society for Hydropower Engineering (CSHE).Ms.Tang Zhen, Vice Dean of Hohai University's Business School, chaired the event, which saw participation from 36 experts and representatives representing 19 organizations.

Mr. Wu Wenhao, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary General ofIF-CSHE, delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the invitation and outlined CSHE's role in promoting sustainable development through hydropower. Highlighting the abundant hydropower resources in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin,heemphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance the efficiency of hydropower utilization and achieve green and low-carbon development goals. Stressing the significance of basin-wide cooperation, he called for early preparation, consideration of carbon neutrality goals, and strengthened international collaboration.

Given the basin's unique geography and cross-border nature, fostering communication and collaboration is crucial for sustainable development. China's extensive experience in hydropower projects positions it to play a leading role in facilitating multi-party cooperation in water resources and energy sectors within the basin. Wu also mentioned CSHE's partnership with the Ecosystem Study Commission for International Rivers, aiming to bolster research capabilities and international cooperation for the coordinated development of hydropower and ecological protection.

In conclusion,heurged all parties to deepen exchanges, share experiences, and pursue mutual benefit in hydropower development, while addressing global challenges such as climate change and energy security. The seminar provided a platform for stakeholders to work together towards sustainable development and common prosperity in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin.
